Anybody know of a shift kit that will enable me to shift at whatever RPM that i choose? For example...at wide open if i shift at 4 grand and keep it wide open it will stay in that particular gear until 6 grand. I want it to shift when i do. But i still want it to shift by itself when cruising. I have been told that adjusting the kick down cable will solve this problem but i find that hard to believe. I am not into trany and am pretty stupid when it comes to working on them. Any help would be great !!!

You will probably want to do a performance rebuild and put a shift kit in the tranny to handle a 6K shift but you really don\'t have to do anything to the tranny to make it stay in a lower gear. Just shift it from first to second at 6K because it won\'t come out of first unless you do. I rebuilt my 700R4 myself and learned quite a bit about transmissions in the process so ask away.

i spoke with my tranny guy about this and he said\"if you want total control over the 7004r you will spend the money for a manual valve body.\"...no the 700r4 is not weak it was not meant for racing, new parts for performance driving are and have been available for many years.383/700r4,3500 stall w/lock up consistant 11:sec. passes and i beat the snot out of her http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

I think the cable is called a TV instead of the generic term \"kick-down\".

Adjust it one way and it will require a higher RPM to shift; adjust the other way and it will shift quicker. I was told that adjusting it too much the \"other way\" and it\'s bound to tear up the tranny quicker. Also, many aftermarket carbuerator\'s linkage \"throw\" is incorrect for the tranny to shift consistantly thru all gears.

Been there.

Push in the button and push the cable adjuster in all the way. Then open the throttle all the way, it should be right.

Sounds right....the button, of course, is on the black plastic housing where the cable comes out by the carb.
