hey guys, well, im spending too much money on my rims and spacers, so i think im just gonna cut the coils in the front until i can buy lower springs and spindles, so i was wodering what the best way to cut the coils is, torch, saw, or how. I know to go little by little so you dont go too far, and also, is there any secret on getting the spring out, shoudl i unbolt the upper or lower control arm, and just any more info would be greatly appreciated. I plan on doing it tonight if i get enough info from you guys, so thanks.

Torching the coils is a bad idea since heat can affect the spring rate of the coil and really mess the way they are supposed to react to conditions. So I would use the old hack saw.

saws all 100% or hack saw if ya have too but eww. dont use a grinder or torch or plasma welder anything producing heat is bad like wild85 stated.

i used a cut of wheel not to much heat there, jack the truck up as high as you can the lower control arm needs to drop way down just drop the lower ball joint use a large prybar to install the spring i always chain the spring to the lower control arm just in case it would shoot out is will not go far lol. use a jack under the control arm to raise and lower it

I used a die grinder with a cut off wheel. Cuts the coil like butter and doesn\'t produce much heat at all. I have seen people use a torch by putting the coil in a bucket of water to absorb the heat but I wouldn\' suggest it.

If a spring compressor is utilized in the removal of coil springs ; one should be very cautious with the compreesed spring after it is removed. Always keep it so that the ends of the coil spring are positioned AWAY from you or anyone! If the compressor somehow fails, the spring will shoot out end ways.
