just a funny story i would like to share, after talking my good friend into building a v8 s10 he then looked for the truck and found the perfect one:bad motor, good body,$100.so we headed off to get it.instead of getting a flatbed we decided to pull it home with a chain.when we got there and looked the truck over we seen the heads were removed and the hood wasnt bolted down so we put the hood in the bed and hooked it up to my s10(with a 327 by the way)and headed home,we had to make a gas stop and as we were leaving the gas station i looked in the mirror

and seen fuel shooting about 15 feet in the air from the s10 we were pulling,he accidentaly left it in gear and didnt know it not haveing any compression with no heads on that little 2.8,but in the end we made it home without burning up! can anybody top that one?

When pulling my truck to the shop for the swap, we connected a battery so to have headlights and brake lights, not owning the truck or ever driving the truck under it\'s own power and having knowledge of any pre existing wiring problems, we came up with the system of flashing the high beams if anything was wrong during the tow. Not a mile from the house a wire somewhere between the firewall on the drivers side and the foot of the \"steerer\" in the truck, a small little fire broke out from a bare wire that in the tow had grounded out and produced a ton of smoke, well the flashing headlight thing worked. the rest of the 15 mile journey went alot smoother.

A buddy of mine in his nice 68 Camaro with a 400sbc had just gotten the heads ported and had put them and the intake and everything back on. Well to make a long story short he must have spilled a little gas out of the line in the process of putting the carb back on cause when he fired it up for the first time the timing was off a little and it back fired.....Catching wire, grease and all of the fuel he spilled on fire. To top it all off the car has a pretty steel stamped cowl hood with a big black spot burned on it and the carb that was once a \"polished\" Edelbrock is not kinda black.

Oh and in a fit of panic i guess, he chose to use the garden hose to put the fire out. And this is with the air cleaner off. Motor runs fine still. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

When i was about 15 my dad had his own body shop on our property. About 3 in the morning my brother of 3 years older than me was putting gas in his POS monza when he spilled some on the floor, his car was in the shop at the time by the way. Why he was doing this i have yet to learned, but to make this short he was smoking a cigeratte and put it out in the poodle, well puff it ignited and so did the walls and rafters. It was all insulation...no paneling so it went pretty fast. There were four cars in the shop at the time, including a awesome 67 firebird. By the time the fire department came the shop was burned to the ground along with the cars and about $100,000 worth of equipment. Nothing was salvageable. Every see a torch explode, i can say i have...!!!! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

i pull a full size dodge pick up 180 mile on a tow dolly for a friend of mine.this was a free truck buy the way. well some time during this trip the truck jumped in gear and the key was on. so the truck was running and we didn\'t know every time I stoped it would stall out. we got it home and were looking it over and found that the motor was hot http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

Heres one for ya...me and a buddy just finished a 350 swap on his 87 4x4 blazer. turned out pretty good actually. but he decides to start it before i had a chance to be there...Well he calls me up and says its gone..i was like what the hell you talking about. turns out when he went to crank it over he forgot to put in a plug on the fuel regulator and didnt have his heater box back in which was where the regulator was mounted. He turned the key and fuel started spraying from the reg and down the firewall into the cab and all over the carpet and inside the engine compartment. The engine started..then backfired..and poof whole truck went up in flames. he jumped out and left the key on so the pump kept on pumping fuel into the fire..Needless to say everything was gone. He pulled the new motor and tranny out and had to junk the rest. All that hard work gone but what do ya do shit happens.

Haha, yeah. Been there, done that. Except for the hose. I had a rag sitting on the fenderwell. The gas was burning out the carb, so I stuffed the rag into the carb. Of course, my dumb ass forgot there was gas on the rag. Ignited instantly, almost lighting my hand too. Yanked the rag out, stomped it out, and finally put out the fire on the carb out too.

Fire extigishers placed where they are visible are too ricy....unless you\'ve got some prostock truck or something.

get this... when i was working on my truck one day i spilled some gas on the ground and forgot about it crawled under neath to undo the converter bolts and when i got back up i walked past my furnace in my garage.... to this day i have never seen a pilot light in a furnace ignite another pair of coveralls from 3 feet away.... that was the scariest thing that\'s ever happend to me in my life... picture yourself running in circles with flames covering your entire body untill your dad throws a pail of water on you... it was rather scary but not a single burn out of the deal... i lost most of my hair though

i do remember one time i was like 13 or 14 my cousin put a new motor in his nova and a new fuel tank, but the only gas had was for the lawn mower. so i sat in the pass. seat with my dad driving to the gas station with my cuz sitting on the fender pouring gas into carb to run . we got 10 feet from the pump and it back fired out the carb. and singed almost every hair on that boys head lol!!!!!!!! funniest thing a 13 year old could ever see. except the time my dad got mad and throwed a cup of coffee out the truck window and it was still rolled up!!!! funny now, but back then did\'nt dare crack a smile. Heres a freaky one for ya. My bro came over one day, decided to take his 69 GTO Judge )Carousel Red) out for ride. He came over.. we hung out, he got in and got ready to leave.. turned over the motor... would catch. Popped the hood.. took off the air cleaner... tried it again.. as fuel came dumping out of the bowl and into the carb, and onto the side.. the float was stuck. So we cleaned up the gas that spilled and i took the bowl off and readjusted the float, cleaned out the needle and seat. Put it back together.. ok fire it up.. ...cranks...cranks... here comes the gas again! POP! F%$ckin thing backfired through the carb igniting all the gas that just dumped out of the bowl again.. carb, and intake caught fire.. 2:00pm beautiful day outside. Going on impulse i grab a rag (forgettin it was the one i used to soak up the gas with) and tried to put out the fire.. NOPE that didnt work that went up in flames and i lost some hair on my hand. While jerking the rag back away from the fire there was another one on the fender that must have been to close and caught fire too. So here we are standing here watching this fire.. i run up the driveway to my dad \"Wheres the fire extinguisher\"....\"We dont have one\" ...\"WHAT\"!?!?! His car was in the street.. no way I could get a hose that would reach. So i run upstairs into the closet and start DIGGIN, I KNOW I saw one in there thats been there for YEARS (prayin it was full and worked). FOUND IT!!!! Ran outside while opening the box and pulling the pin.. pulled the trigger and ....................... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif no more fire.. just a whole lotta white stuff. It turns out the float had a pin hole in it. Went out THAT DAY and bought 3 fire extinguishers.. 1 in the garage, 1 in the kitchen and 1 for a spare. (You\'ll notice my pickup has extinguishers too, on the roll cage and 1 inside.) Ill be DAMNED if that Judge was gunna go up in flames.. heres the wierdest part of the story.. all this happened in a matter of 4minutes i would say.. and RIGHT AFTER i put the fire out.. a fire truck drove up my street.. my street is weird COPS NEVER come up my street.. FIRE TRUCKS NEVER come up my street.. the lights werent on and the sirens werent going.. THAT is FREAKY!! And the rag that was on the paint, burning... didnt make a mark on the paint.. i think he used NU-FINISH go figure eh? http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif
