has anyone used this fan? jtr says it works, but they also run mild v8s. mine is gonna be a 414 stroker. with 500+ hp i expect it to be hard to cool, since i am in florida. i have the vette rad, and was looking into 2 perma cool 12 inchers. they pull 1650 cfm each. what do you guys think, will this be sufficiant for cooling? i was gonna run a 175 thermostat, and the fans will be on all the time.
so anyone know the exact cfm the taurus fan pulls?

My twin fan from a tarus runs my 383 at around 180-190 in regular weather in traffic I wont know how it deals with 39`C until this summer hope it holds out

Ditch that vette radiator. Thats a big motor for that. And, strokers usually run a little warmer.
My moneys on needing a bigger radiator. Then worry about the electric fans. I doubt that the tauras fan by itself would work either.
Just for info sakes, I seen specs on a taurus fan that were in the 5000 cfm range, now if thats true or not Iam not sure

You may have to run a flex fan with the aid of the 2 fans.. You get pretty toasty down there and i hate to see all the money go up in smoke.. Felx fans are just ugly and a tight fit.. How about running 2 12\'s in the front as pushers and maybe a thinline 12 as a puller inside the engine bay?
Just an idea.

That giant Taurus/MKVIII fan moves 5000CFM! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

5000 should be plenty. i have already desided to use this fan. if it runs warm, i will look into other options like engine driven fan and bigger rad. the vette rad will cool better than 2 core rads and that is the strongest e fan i know of. i should be fine. i think 2 pushers and another fan will probally cause a restriction.

i\'m with ZZ4 on this, go with a different radiator like a 4core griffon or something like that. I\'m running the vette radiator and with a flex fan it gets real hot in traffic, a electric fan as a pusher will probaly solve my problem but with that type of power i would get something bigger. You can try the vette radiator with acouple pushers and a flex fan but i would invest in a nice aluminum 4 core..i\'m gonna. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Theres nothing wrong with the vette rad it has more cooling surface then the 4 core its just harder to push/pull air through using a duel fan solves this! Engine based fans run at crap speed in traffic and dont pull anything through the rad so it gets warm, electrics solves this by running 10K RPM no matter what your engine is doing so you always get high flow volume now at speed if the rad didn\'t cool then Id say you have a wind direction problem ie not enough direct wind flow going to the rad and then maybe the rads not big enough I mean if it cant cool your engine at speed its not working then you move to a larger core size. 4 cores are bulky and only serve one purpose they hold enough fluid for BB engines to keep them cooler better at speed because the fluid stay longer in the rad before moving through the engine but for a small block its pointless and just adds that much more wait to the very front of the truck.
On another note unless your rad has a none dense fun surface such as an AC core pushing air through it is useless you get only 36% of the volum of air the fan can push through it because fans are not strong puhsers by design there made to pull air also being a pusher fan means blocking air thats heading for the fan so you loss cooling effiecency that way aswell.
My final note is set your electric fan on a thermostate because even the best electrics will block air flow at speed and you only want them coming on when your engine hits a certain temperature at idle or in traffic running them continuesly will make you run hotter at speed and waist electricity aswell as it my backwash bad current back accross your electrical system and just is not good for the motors!
oh my final ramblings most fans have drainage tubes or holes make sure you mount these holes in the down position this is a mistake a lot of people make and the fan will get water in it and have a very short life.

since i made this thread i also desided to add a thermostat. a 4 core is too thick. bigger isnt always better(unless it is cubes http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif ) the 4 core will block too much airflow. the vette should be fine as i stated before, if it isnt i will go from there.

this is what the vette rad looks like inside. it is the one all the way to the left, as you can see, this will cool better than a 2 core, and if you put 2 of those 2 cores together, you will see it is way to thick to get adequate airflow.
