Has anyone ever used either the 12 or 18 circuit universal wiring harnes on their trucks? how well did it work. Has anyone used the engine harness for TBI, and did you use all the same P/T# as the ones they specify?

I was wondering about the connectors. cuase ever vehicle has different controls and plugs for stuff like lights and radios and stuff. So do i need to get all those connectors to add to the kit?

As far as I know my friend used his old connectors from the truck but you could by new ones yes either way you need them the wires just end you may also need to extend wires but Im not sure on that one.

shouldnt need to extend wires.
you can easily splice the wires to old connectors. i was gonna get a painless wiring system, but have since desided to wire it myself.

I just finished installing the 12 circuit harness. Only thing that is mildly difficult is wiring your printed circuit plug-in and if you are using aftermarket guages then that is a non-issue. I would definately recommend using it. It really cleans things up, and if you cut anything off of your old harness you are just asking for trouble to happen. I say this from experience. Go for it and just take your time. The most important thing is carefully routing your wires. Feel free to email any more questions.

I have used a kit from EZ-Wire(look in streetrodder magazine)with some great results. It came with all of the steering column connectors. The wires where extra long so that you can cut them to the lenght that you need and then put the connectors on(headlight connectors Etc which cam with the kit). The best part of this EZ-Wire kit is that the 18 system is only $195 apposed to the $300-$400 for a painless. This kit is very basic an user friendly. My buddy wired his blazer with one of these kits(had never done anything like this before) in about two days. Hope this helps SSB

i ran into a snag the gm connector isnt anything like my factory connector on my 96. i kept the horn/head light bulk head connector and taillight one. so all i had to do splice in on the other connector. same goes for all the other connectors just cut the one off the the harness and pigtail it to the new harness. i took about 70lbs of harness from the 96 and alot of ease. the hard part is finding a schematic for the the turnsignal/ignition switch connector and headlight switch connector.
