rear gears

i have a 94 s-10 with a 355 that as the pefromer rpm package and i want o put 456 gears in my stock rear that is 7 5/8 it has 373 now would the 456s work would they fit

they will fit ..just make sure that you get the right gear set...they made 2 different carriers for that rear end ...i have 4.11 gears in mine and are they really low ..even for the street and a 456 is even worse..you will be able to only go about 45-50 mph down the high way and you wil be at like 3000-4500 rpm...i would go with the 3.73 i wish i had ...but if you drive it on the street at all than 4.11 is really the way to go..but 456 will get you going in a hurry...have fun

thanx for the infor about the gears i still might but a locker in my rear i dont have the rpmheads i have camel backs i ported and shaved i have a B&M 2400 stall speed converter i have a th350 trans with a stage 3 shift kit everythign works good its just i cant hook up

4.56 will get you going but i hope your engine is a high rpm engine.afriend once put 4.56 in his chevelle with the stock 307 ha ha we had some fun with him at top speed but he could take off. all depends what you use it for street-3.42-4.11 mine had 3.08 i wish it had more good luck

Also your tire size matters too. A taller tire will kill some of the gearing in the rearend. Like me i have the stock 4.11\'s and a 27\'\' tall tire, whick kills the gearing down to aprox. a 3.90 or so just as an example. I am going to get the 4.56\'s for my next set of gears along with a minispool. But when you order gears, since you have 3.73 you have the lower gear ratio carrier so you can go with a 4.56 or so without changing the carrier. But when you get gears and a locker-spool-mini spool- or what ever....make sure all of the internals you get are for a 7.625 ring gear..not the 7.50. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
