I am running the stock in tank pump and im using a regulator and when i first got it working the pump made the normal noise but after a few times of starting it up the pump makes a louder noise and it doesn\'t sound good. can anyone tell me what this may be? thanks. im using the holly max pressure regulator if that helps.

are you running a return line back to the pump, you need a return line or else the pump will burn out.

hrmm.. would be better if you could atleast describe the noise or go and record it for us http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

im not running a return line but the conversion book i had recomended the regulator i was using...and the noise sounds like the normal fuel pump sounds when you turn the key on but higher pitched its kinda hard to describe but it almost sounds the same but louder

you need a return line from these pumps or theyll burn out very quickly your regulator should have an output if not get one that goes or you\'ll frag your pump really quickly

alright...the regulator has 2 outs in the instructions it said they were for dual carbs

they might be but ya have to think all that pressure has to go some were so Id run a pressure check on each port if they both run at 7-10 psi you have the wrong regulator if one runs at 7-10 and the other way higher then the higher ones your dump port.

I believe they are both the same psi because it just stated that there are 2 ports for dual carbs so im assuming they would both run at the same pressure....I\'m just kinda wondering why the book said to use this regulator if it was going to burn out my pump i guess it just doesn\'t make any sense to me. I understand what you are saying about needing the return line...i think my pump might be shot already so does anyone have a suggestion on what to do that wont require a ton of work? thanks for the info.

install a mechanical pump it should draw from the tank fine.

i think i will get a new pump but what about an inline electric one? will that draw though the stock pump too? my teacher said it would be better to go with electric for some reason...any imput? thanks a lot for the info!

mechanicals are good too just that you have to take longer starting the engine if the fuel line is full of air because the pump is worked by the engine the electrics pull from the tank faster in the end its upto you and how much money you want to spend.

stock pumps aren\'t hard to change. I\'m useing my stock pump with a 3 port mallory regulator, its works great. I debated about going with a mechanical one but i just like the electric ones better they provide a more constant flow of fuel. In line ones are good but i don\'t have any experience with them.

Would the electric pull through the in tank pump? I have read that the electrics will have a more constant fuel flow too. Thanks for the input again.

yeah it should pull just fine if you have any hesitation you could always pull the pump and mod something up to the pump assembly
