OK, I got another V8 S-10 S-10 and I\'m lovin it! I have a couple issues though. First, in first gear after about 4000 RPM it\'s the engine is revving, but the truck ain\'t acceleratin\' It almost like it\'s in neutral and the tranny will not shift until I let ff the gas. Tranny problem or limitation of the crappy 500 CFM Edelbrock or both? Second, i had this issue with the 84 too sometimes when braking, particularly harder braking, the truck will stall. I believe I have read about a kit or valve that is needed for power brakes/carbed motor to work correctly together? Oh, tranny is a 700R4 setup to be contrpoled by vacuum
Basic Tuneup quetons: It\'s been a while since I did a tuneup, what\'s the best plugs for a 355? I plan on going to a new carb too, probably a Quadrajet since they seem to be the best.
Thanks before hand.

first off the reving but not moving could be because of a weak cam. Maybe because your not getting enough fuel but i doubt it. more than likely its your cam. The best plug i would say is probably a 44 or so not too cold but not too hot
Oh and while im at it...i have an edelbrock 600 and a holley red series pump that would be a good addition to your fuel sys. both for $200 shipped

First off, if yer truck is stalling on a hard brake I would check your vacuum lines.. it sounds like you have a leak. With vacuum assisted brakes when you slam on the brake you take all the vacuum out of the brake booster.. depending on the cam in the motor it probably cant generate enough vacuum to help you stop. If the vacuum lines look ok, I would invest $20 into a vacuum canister (CompCams makes one) all it does is store extra vacuum. If your truck has more than .480 lift or a lobe spread of less than 112 i would recommend it.

as far as the truck not moving in first gear.. lets narrow it down a bit, is there a detent cable attached to this application? If so, make sure that is adjusted properly, second, if it is adjusted properly your tranny might be toast. Or it could just be the torque converter.. drain the tranny fluid and change the filter (might be clogged) if theres metal in the fluid chances are theres damage to the transmission. If the fluid is clean, try the new filter and fluid if that doesnt work.. you may need a new converter.

as it has been said before it is hard to diagnose online but it sounds like everyone is one track first think i thought of about when braking was a vacuum problem and not going anware depends how much the engine revs if it revs really high and quieck i\'d say trans is toast but also make sure detent is adjusted this could also cause the shift when you let off the gas cam or carb troubles would give more of a dead feeling but not reving up in most cases i\'ve seen but hard to tell online good luck. i agree with leightweight on the plugs i also agree qjets are a great street carb when properly adjusted
