View Full Version : Exhaust routing etc.
I\'ve kind of ran into a problem. I\'ve figured out my budget and all that fun stuff, and it seems that I\'ll basically be able to get everything done on the S-10 except for the exhaust. I have the headers in the truck, and I have a bunch of 2.5 inch and 3 inch exhaust pipe laying around along with various flowmasters and dynomax mufflers. Should I attempt to route the exhaust myself, or should I just wait until I can come up with more money and have an exhaust shop do it? I just want to run the exhaust out in front of the rear wheels.
Other than my money problem, I had a real good day today. I found 3 different 350\'s. One doens\'t turn over, one runs good, and the other one was built for dirt track racing but never used. I found a 70 Camaro for $200 that needs body work but runs good. I also found a 1969 Chevelle SS 396/375 horse. The car could use a going over, and the motor is not in it. It has the original muncie M-22 in it, and the original 12 bolt rear. The original cam, intake, and aluminum heads come with it too. The price on that is $1500. It\'s rough around the edges, but it\'s not real bad. I would call finding all that stuff in one day a real good day. I also found a GM SBC cast iron 4bbl intake in a mud puddle at a scrap yard yesterday. I got that all cleaned up already.

I ran the exhaust throught the cat and muffler under the cab then to do it all the way to the back I brought it from an inch from the floor of the bed ran it to the back then down and out.you can get bends from local parts stores to acomodate you easily and the exhaust after the muffler is quite cool and shouldn\'t cause any problems with heat disapation against the body.
Your not the only one on the budget, Iam also swapping a 355 into the old blue and Iam going to try to bend up the exhaust myself( I just purchased a small and cheap bender ) So Ill let yoiu know how it goes http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

I tell ya what, i have some old cast iron intakes here as well, i was going to use em, BUT spend the 120$ and get a new one. you will not regreat it. go to ebay or a swap meat and check em out sometime they sell for less.. But i was concerned about the poor performance, weight, and breathing ability. I like the eddelbrock eps. It has a little more hp as well as gas milage with the new style, or the standard performers. Go aluminum it is a great idea and looks a lot better. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif Of course it is all my opinion.
Enjoy your project, mine is about 60% complete just put the engine in last night, It was the easiest one i ever done.. sort of odd.
I wasn\'t planning on using that intake. I just found it and cleaned it up. I have an edelbrock intake and carb in the truck already. I\'ll take a free intake manifold any day of the week. Along with just about a free anything any day of the week.

i built my own exhaust for under $50 not including the muffler. I went out and bought a 2.5\" prebent pipe..can\'t remember what it was for..and some straight 2.5\" pipe and started cutting and welding. It took me about 4 hours to make everything but its better than spending $300 plus for custom exhaust.

i ran the exhaust on mine out in front of the rear wheels. the way i did it was to bend the exhaust down from the motor then run it above the transmission crossmember for clearance. i have cats so i welded em up right to the mufflers then dumped both sides out in front of the rear wheels.
right now im runnin open hedders around the block and into the garage to avoid police http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif but i bent my exhaust tonight, i got $15 into it. It goes down about 7 inches from header, then the driverside goes straight back for 20 inches, then a free cherry bomb. The passenger side took some bending, but it turned out. At the ends of them they have downspouts.
