View Full Version : Sanderson Headers Questions
Pulled the worn out 305 and have begun getting my stuff together for a crate 350. Been browsing the forum allot and I\'m almost convinced of running the Sanderson headers instead of staying with the 83 Firebird manifolds that have served me well since 1991. However I\'ve got a few questions for those of you running Sanderson\'s. My vehicle is a 2WD 85 Blazer with a 5 spd. and I\'m using the advance adapter motor mounts. Would the CS11 (1 1/2 pipes) be adequate for a 285 HP motor? Will I run into interference problems with my slave cyclinder? Will I have to run a remote oil filter? Will I have to do anything crazy, like cut a hole in the passengers floor board, to connect the pipes to the collector? Don\'t laugh...I\'ve see applications where this happened. On the passengers side will I have to alter my AC air box? How tight is the clearance between the header pipe and steering shaft? I\'m already running the smaller upper u-joint. On one picture I saw that the pipes on the drivers side really poke out (too allow the stearing shaft go between it.) How far are the pipes from the brake line coils? If anyone has any pictures of these headers installed in the vehicle can they post them on the site? If I go with the headers I\'m looking to have them Jet Coated. My current exhaust manifolds are still in great shape and original plan was to have them jet coated. They fit perfect and I have no real clearance problems. I\'m all for gaining more performance but not at the expense of butchering up the vehicle or having to come up with a remote oil system or a new clutch slave cylinder set up. If I have to go that route I\'ll just stick with the manifolds.

If your looking for the power gains from headers, and are going to spend the money on sanderson, I\'d upgrade to at least the 1 5/8\'s. Those are a good base to start with.
Hell, even with the 275 hp LT1\'s, most manufactures run at least 1 5/8\"s on base models.
I don\'t know what slave/tranny your running, but had a problem once. My motor torqued when I hammered on it, and ended up busting off the clutch line. But, my motor was all the way back. I put a small dent in the header tube with a ball peen hammer after I replaced my slave. Looks like the header came that way from the manufacturer.
The first pair I had I liked. Fit good, looked even better. I had mine coated. Worth the money in my opinion.
I\'m running the adavance adapter slave cylinder braket that attaches to the two bellhousing bolts on the LH side (drivers side) and attached to it is a slave cylinder from a Toyota Lancrusier. The tranny is the original T5. I\'m using the one piece aluminum GM bellhousing. I\'m trying to picture if this would be below the header collector. I think it would. I should have taken some pictures under the vehicle before I yanked the motor out last weekend. My motor is also sitting as far back as it could go (and still be able to pull the distibutor with the engine installed.)

You might have problems with it being on the drivers side.
You must be running the internal slave cylinder? Your also running a T56 aren\'t you? If so you don\'t have the problems I do when trying to find a clutch disc. The 1\" 14MM spline was unique to the S10\'s. Centerforce made one back in 1991 whene I coverted the vehicle over. 3 years ago two of the springs in that disk broke. Thats when I found out centerforce no longer made that disc. I found a company in Cleveland Ohio called Custom Clutch who made them. That was three years ago and about 25K miles. The pressure plate looks great (going to re-use it) and the clutch disk material looks good however the springs are wearing into the disc. I went on Advance Adapters home page and see they are now showing a clutch disc that has that old Centerforce part number. Wonder if they are making them again? I really had no problem with the one from Cleveland other than I don\'t think it was as thick because the release point was much closer to the floor. Other than the disk all the other hardware was the same. If you running a T56 how did you reindex the tranny (since it\'s clocked CW) and what console setup did you use? The shifter sits farther back doesn\'t it?
