Does anyone know if I can put a V8 in my 95 Sonoma 4X4 and retain the 4X4 function. And if so even the electronic transfer case shifter? Yes your can retain everything in the 4wd. Your easiest swap would be to find a 305 or 350 out of a full size truck and do the swap. All of the computer stuff will be a bunch easier to connect and troubleshoot.

i agree get a v8 from same year fullsize(close to same year)that way the computer wiring will match uf very close only a few mods may need to be done best of both worlds power and reliabilty
