Get the JTR book. It has a 30-page chapter on cooling that will solve your problem.

i have a similar problem..what radiator..fan combo you useing?? An electric fan should solve your problem if you don\'t already have one.

if your using an older rad have it flushed you might have deposits keeping it from cooling properly.
if your running a rebuilt Id again say you should have a flush to get any particular crap out of the engines cooling system.
what engine rad combo are you running and what fan?
i got a 17\" flex fan and a 4.3 rad with a 160 thermo i have no shroud. i was thinking about haveing my rad recored. but ive been told not to do that. and as far as a electric fan gos i want to hook it up so i can turn it on and off with a swich

BW - You shouldn\'t nreed a recore unless its leaking usualy a good solvent bath will take all the crap out of the rad try taking the truck to a local rad shop and let them clean the system for you you should see a good increase in cooling. also make sure you have a good flow through your rad and make sure your fan turns off at highway speeds or it will reduce flow through your rad.
Pool - 230 is bad if you are using a puisher fan you must be absolutly sure the fan seals up against the rad or it will loose most of its effiecentcvy these rads are not as effiecent as a puller fan... another note as same as above to BW the fan should bew swuitch off at speeds above 40MPH as the fan no longer contributes to cooling infact it blocks good airflow.
Both of you should run a setup were you cans witch the fan off at highway speeds if your using a fuel injection setup the computer may suport an electric fan already try setting up the wiring and burning a new prom.
My electric is setup to come on at 210 and turn off at 180 since Im running fuel injection this helps with burn efficency and it never leaves this range also the computer shuts the fan off nwhen proper highway speeds are reached.

How long has this been going on or is this the first time this has happened I would do what icequeen said I would also look at freeze plugs or head gaskets leaking

okay ill try the switch soon, i realise that pushers arn\'t as good as pullers but i don\'t have room for the pullers with the radiator in the stock position. i am thinking of getting one more 14 inch fan. would it be a good idea to go with a 160 thermostat instead of the 180 thats in there now? any other opinions would be greatly appreciated. i feel that in the summer it will run to hot to drive more than a few mins. thanks a bunch.

The 180 Thermostate should be just fine. Running a dual fan setup seems to work best thow many have gotten away with using a single large fan.

I added a pusher fan to my Blazer (see pic\'s). I was noticing it starting to heat up in heavy traffic when the outside temp in above 80 degrees and sunny. Mine was only getting up to about 210 degrees. Added the fan (direct switch) turn it on, temp droped about 20 degrees in about 2 or 3 minutes. Using a 160 stat vurses a 180 can sometimes make it run hotter (coolant moving to fast thru system to cool in radiator). Good luck. Cooling troubles can be a big headache sometimes....
