hi everybody.

i\'m think about buying an \'88 S-10 from my father-in-law. It has a 2.5l 4cyl. auto. with about 80,000 miles. i want to do a V-8 swap, and can get a 307 that runs great. my question is how good of an engine is the 307? i\'m not looking for a 12 sec. truck, just something fun to drive and the occasional street race. also could i use the A/C compressor from the 4cyl. om the 8cyl?

i am planning on running a th350, 4.11posi rear with my V-8. is that a good combo for mild street use?

thanks.

The 307 is not a high performance engine by any means but it will work just fine in a s-truck. I think the 4.11 gears are a little low for a street truck without overdrive. With the TH350 I\'d use 3.42 or maybe 3.73. If you go with a 700R4 then by all means 4.11 all the way.

The a/c can be used but you might have to scrounge around the junk yard to find the right brackets to mount all off the accesories.

is it a reliable engine? is it possible to increase the power of a 307? change out the cam, raise the comp., anything else?

i wouldn\'t be doing any highway driving or long trips in this truck. i just want something to take to local shows and stuff, and to drive occasioally.

would an S-10 with a 307 be quick? not fast, i dont care to go over 100.

I\'ve never heard anything good about the 307. My buddies nova had one, and he ditched it for a crate 350.

The 307 is a smal block with the stroke of a 327 and the bore of a 283. Good for a grandma\'s car! Good for a street driven truck but NO fast truck.

Get a 350 and go to town!

Good luck in your venture!

i\'ve heard that all small block V-8 have the smae size block but different internals to make the different dispalcements. if so then is it possible to make a 307 into a 327 or even a 350? would that be less expensive than a rebuild of a 350?

You cant bore the block big enough on that 307 to get 350 cubes. Dont get me wrong, i have seen 427+ cube small blocks, but that is alot of work and money. And the 350 chevy has to be by far the cheapest motor to restore that i have seen.

i agree the 307 is not worth the work.itf your looking for the easy way find a \"donar\"car with good 350 \"even a 305\" that way you have all your brakets and little parts and swap it all over to the s10 good luck kepp us posted
