ok so how do i know what type of engine i have and who makes it and stuff? i hear theres a number somewhere on that thing...

there www,mortec.com they have casting number for chevy motor and wher they are located on the block.

can you see these numbers while the engine is in the truck? cause i didnt see them in there anywhere and ive been diggin around for an hour with a flashlight and a small mirror...

locate the water pump, if your standing in front of the truck look at the left side of the water pump where it bolts up to the block.. right above that slightly to the left, in front of the head there is a flat surface with your casting number. This will tell you what the motor originally came out of, what plant it was made at, the month and year, how much HP it was rated at and what tranny was backed to it. Try and grab those numbers and post them and ill see if i can find them in my small block bible.
