first off did you check the oil level it could be just low also since you just got the truck the dipstick may read right escpecially if its a chrome aftermarket if you thing the dipstick may not read right just change the oil and filter put in 5.5 qts a normal amount w stock oil pan and started let it get pressure shut it off wait a min then check it and see were the level is on the stick this should read full also try some thicker oil 20w50 if you still have the knocking sound it maybe time for a new engine!!!!!!but its hard to tell online try changeingthe oil 15 psi at an idle is low but normal on some engines

I don\'t mean to sound rude, but it seems that you bought a lemon. If you got the time and ambition, and acouple friends who know something about engines, then rip the motor and tranny out and redue it. If it only knocks but still runs then there still hope for it, but if you drive it and toast the motor, then you\'ll be looking for a new engine. If its a big hassle then sell it and find something that you know something about. But i would rip that truck totaly apart and start from scratch, it will be a good learning experience for you. There are tons of books that will help you with anything you need to know. And i\'m sure everybody on here will help you as much as they can. Ask around maybe one of the guys on here lives nearby to you and can help you get started on your truck.

I ran the 305 in my s10 for over a year, and at idle it read 0psi, warm at 2500 rpm it was only at 15 or so. It never died either, just decided to put in the 350.

This is not good advise to give to anyone. I know from experiance, i was told that too and yes the motor did keep running. I had the same almost 0psi at idle and around 15-25psi warm and under load , and when the motor was finally torn down noting was reuseable....Crank was gouged and the bearings were shot, rods had taken so much heat from not getting enough oil that they were not reuseable.

Just my experiane. Even though the motor was still running, the problem of low oil pressure can also be one of the causes of an engine running hot.

its really not to hard, if you can remember how you took it apart, you can put it back together, if you have a video camera, or digital camera, take lots of pictures or video tape as you go along, then you have something to refer back to when putting it together
