recently i have noticed a wiered ticking noise in my truck that is speed related. ie the fast the truck is moving the faster the ticking gets.

i finally found that my t case lever is all the way in the forward position, but if i pull it back about 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch the noise goes away. but the lever will just vibrate back into place.

so i tried to make a spacer to keep the lever from going all the way forward but the noise is still there.

anyone else ever have this problem?

any ieas on what i can check?

i do have an exhaust leak but its not an exhaust leak that is making this noise.the noise is most noticable when not under load or slowing down when the exhaust stops making noise i can hear it.

I had that problem with ticking while going slow or slowing down. It was caused by the rearend. Apparently if your pinion angle is off as little as 2 degrees, you can get this. I don\'t remember which way it goes. If it\'s off the other way you get ticking on acceleration.

Most alignment shops carry angle shims that can cure the problem. You just stick em between the spring perch and the spring. On the front to go one way or the back to go the other.

The truck I had this on was an 87 longbox with a 305 and 2004r trans. I had the driveshaft cut and balanced (both sections) and the rear was a stock open 7-1/2. This was quite a while ago. (My first swap) 91?

Seems to me there is some mention of this in

Mike Knell\'s book (JTR).

actually found the problem was bad u joint in the front drive shaft. even when its not engaged it still spins and the u joint was so bad the drive shaft was bouncing around on the joint.

Yeah on two of the caps the needles got rusty and just ground them selves into nothing and the caps were broken too!

so i replace the u joint but i need to replace the other end too so im just waiting for some money to finish it up and get my 4x4 system working again.

Good find. My friend blew his tranny and transfer case, his rear went out and it slammed into the case cracking it thru the tranny. Dont ask me how it was just split..

Anywho you should do what i did, go with the 355 and dana 44 from and rears. IT is hella strong and insane.. hood sits at shoulder level (61 inches off the ground) Stock leaf springs and 33 inch tires..

Well enjoy and as if you need any info.. Those u-joints are 10.99 at the local CSK auto parts store.

ok so i guess $25 canadian isnt too bad for price. my father said their good heavy duty rockford joints so hopefully theyll last long.

as for the dana 44 i plan on doing that swap but im stuck on the steering setup.
