New here,first post:

I have a 2002 Xtreme V6 Auto and I (eventually) want to install a small block w/ around 350 HP.Will my original 4L60 hold up to the v8 HP/torque if I install a Corvette Servo

in the tranny?

a servo doest make that big of a difference..i think...any way yes the over drive should bolt up to the v-8 and depending on how you drive it sholud hold up to the power unless you are always getting on it...but where\'s the fun if you don\'t....if you have the money i would just take it to a good tranny shop and have it built to handle the power....

The 4L60E is what is in the new Ls1\'s(A4) and fullsize trucks. I am pretty sure it will hold just fine. On the other hand i have a buddy that had his 4L60 go out after 15,000 miles or so in his 2002 GMC, and that was not even racing with it.

Lightweight....so exactly what is the diff between a 4L60 and a 4L60E? I thought it was the different servo.

You know, im not really sure, but i do think that its the electronic overdrive. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif (ask ZZ4Blazer) But yes they both should hold just fine

I\'m not gonna run it at the drag strip, it would be a daily driver....but when I get on it, I expect to move :not slip! Guess I might wanna ask a tranny shop.

the difference between the 4L60 and the 4L60e is the electronic shift and uses a different torque converter,it does not have a tv cable to adjust shift points... the 4L60 is an upgraded 700r4 ,its a little stronger from the factory personally i feel the 4L60e\'s are a handy capp, we have been swapping these tranny\'s from f-bodies to use the 2004r\'s,from monte carlo ss,grand nationals etc.they all break cause gm did not design them to be POUNDED the way we do.thats why i have a GOOOOOOD TRANNY GUY....

oh by the way the 700r4 is from\'84-\'90 f-bods the 4L60 is from \'90-\'92the 4L60e is 92-pres.the 2004r is from \'83-\'89 gn\'s monte carlo\'s and most caprices and astro vans ..hope this helps a bit.....

Start naming the symptoms and you\'ll find someone that knows

According to the tranny guy that rebuilt mine a 4l60 and a 700r4 are the same tranny. When I rebuilt my 700r4 the box kit said 4l60.also if your truck is a 91 you have a 700r4.

the 4l60 is just basically a beefed up 700r... they actyually mount exactly the same and have pretty much the same case but the 4l60e is electonically shifted...it uses a ecm to control the shifting instead of a kickdown cable like the 4l60 and 700r... the trans should hold out behind that much power...

and most astro van\'s have 700r\'s i don\'t think i\'ve seen one with a 200r... the 200r was the g-body trans (montecarlo, cutlass, prand prix, fullsize stuff...) the astro got the 700r along with the s-10 because they are \"trucks\"

4L60=700R4 just different terminology...GM made an attempt to standardize their terminology throughout the transmission line...

4L60E began in 93 and uses a valve body that uses electrical (hence the \"E\") solenoids instead of mechanical pressure valves to shift the trans, these solenoids are controlled by the PCM (computer)...

The 4L80E was also introduced in the early 90\'s and is a heavier duty version of the 4 speed auto...

Back to the orig question...since the PCM controls the shift points/firmness...I was told that the \"corvette\" servo will make little or no difference...the shift point/firmness can be changed by editing the PCM software...

And, unless they made changes in the past few years,(I have been away from a GM dealer for a few years now) the 4.3 version of the 4l60e had less clutches in the packs than the V8\'s did...It\'ll work, but longevity will be even less than a \"V8\" one...

So here it is nearly 2 months since I originally posted this . Since then I have learned a lot from reading all the posts here. I have bought a low mileage 1996 Corvette LT4 engine and a 4L60E from a 1995 Camaro. Now all I have to purchase is a big shoe horn! Thankyou all for the vast info provided.
