well my in tank pump went out last week and i have a mechanical pump off my 350 that i put on my motor and hooked up the lines and all and for some reason its not pumping fuel. i put fuel in the tank and i can\'t think of any reason it wouldn\'t pump. i know the pump is good also. i could only think that the pump in the tank may be blocking flow possibly anyone have comments?

Did you install the fuel pump rod?If you dont have one, you can go to the autozone there in Janesville and pick one up for $4.99, the part# is motormite 03875.

I cant figure that one out.It should pull thru the stock one easily.I wasnt implying anything about the rod http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

When you turn the motor over, put you hand on the pump, you will be able to feel if it is working internally.

yeah i thought about it not having the lobe but i turned it over and the rod was in diffent places every time i checked. I also put my hand on the pump and it was working. i talked to my auto teacher this morning and he said the pump takes time to prime. the jeep we worked on today took a few mins to prime then it fired up. so im gonna go home after school and hook the lines back up and see what happens. thanks for all the help.

maybe your filter, or the pump itself in the tank are pluged...

i must have been hallucinating (sp?) when i put my hand on the pump because i tried it again and it wasn\'t pumping. i took the pump off and pumped it manual and it worked fine. then i put it back on and it didnt work. i made sure the rod was on the pump but for some reason it dont work...i dunno what it could be. maybe it doesnt really go on the rod when i bolt it on.

Poolhusler8, Now you have gone and done it.Now i have a mechanical fuel pump that wont work.I went out to crank my truck and now there is no gas flowing thru the lines. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif I check the line before and after the regulator.Well, come to find out, that i have to get another fuelpump. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif I did actually get about 3 miles of service, and about 3 hrs idle time. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_hammer.gif

Atleast it has a lifetime warranty. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

I had a problem getting the gas to pump In my 85 Blazer after my swap. It doen\'t have a pump in the tank. I had plugged off the return line (didn\'t think I needed it). Unplugged it and it started pumping fuel...

If you have a carb; then pour a shot of gasoline in it thru the top then crank it up. It should start and run for 2 or 3 seconds and that may be enough to get the fuel pump primed and operating. CAUTION: have a fire extinguisher handy as this procedure can possibly cause a backfire/carb on fire. I wouldn\'t throw more than a shot of gas in there at any one time.

yeah i understand all of that and have done most of that stuff. the fuel pump isnt working while its on the motor. its not pumping even with the lines off of it. when i put my fingers over the holes with no fuel lines on the pump i feel nothing at all. i have the pushrod in and when i put the pump on i see the rod touching pump. maybe when i put it all the way on, the rod slides down and does not stay in contact with the pump itself. does anyone else think this could be the problem?

I don\'t think it is possible to install the pump without the rod being in place.....it\'s either in-place or ya can\'t get the pump flush w/ the block. On the older blocks there is a 3/8\" dia(?) bolt in the front of the block which is in alignment with the side of the shaft. One can remove that bolt, thread in a longer bolt, and, as you push the shaft up you can snug the longer bolt up against the side of the shaft and it will hold it in place. Once pump is installed, remove longer bolt, put sealant on stock bolt, and re-install.

yeah i know what you mean, now that im at home i think ill try that out and see what happens. im actually gonna go measure the pushrod just to check. thanks for the help i appreciate it a lot.

ok, i went and tried everything again. now my believe is that the cam has no pushrod lobe on it. my friend that i bought it from said he thought it did. i left the pump off and had my bro turn it over a few times and checked where the rod was every time and it was in the SAME spot every time. so thats my theory anyone think i may be right? i think i might just wait till i get some money and buy a holley red pump any other suggestions on that?
