Well, the 4.3 finally crapped out, so I\'m going to finally put in a V8. Pickup the Conversion manual from JTR and think I\'m going to follow it for the most part and go with a 305. I\'d like to use a 350, but since the 350 was a TPI, I want to do the simplest conversion possible and go with the Camaro 305. Right now, I\'m trying to locate a good engine, at which point I\'ll need to track someone down with a bit more experience in doing engine transplants. Fortunately, there is a guy in my old department at work who has actually done the conversion himself (he went old school and grabbed springs, mounts from anything an everything). Hopefully, everything will work the first time.

I don\'t get it, why are you using a 305 if you really want a 350? Why not either simply convert the TPI 350 to carb (all you need is a carb and a manifold) or just use an older 350 that was carbed from the factory? Not all 350s are TPI. Neither are all 305s TPIs.

Oh, maybe you\'re saying you WANT to keep the 4.3\'s fuel injection?

If you want the simplest swap possible why not just use a carb?

Kind of feeling lazy about having to switch out the fuel pump if I go with a carbed 350 and concerned about the computer stuff.

I agree with s10rodder on this.I would find your nearest public auto auction and go their salvage sale.I have seen a full size z71 4x4 that was rearended and side swiped go for $125.00.The engine and tranny was fine.It only had 60k miles on it.Last saturday at the auto auction i seen a BigBlock(454) 76 monte carlo go for $600.I actually drove the monte around on their 12 acre lot.It ran and shifted fine.Heck i let it idle for atleast 30 minutes.I have ran across alot of deals at the auction over the years.

for the most part if you run a mech fuel pump you dont need to swap out the pump in the tank at all so a 350 would be easy and youd save yourself time headaches and money by just getting the one you want. just IMO.

Trust me go with the 350 right off the bat!!!

I currently have a 305, and it runs pretty well for the most part, but I want more power.

I\'m going to be putting the 350 in this summer.

I\'m not saying the 305 won\'t run em\', but you\'ll want the 350 in the long run...

Just throw a tbi intak on the 350 and use all your 4.3 fuel injection. you will need the v8 distributor, injectors for the size of engine and a chip from a v8 vehicle. THe nyou have a fuel injected v8 and its simplier than switching to a carb and having to go and remove all the computer crap!

to the last post yes you can use the electric fuel pump but will need a regulator and rewire the feed wire i believe it goes through the pcm on the injected ones

Go with the 350 carb\'d. I put a 305 into mine, from a firebird and now wish I had gone with a 350. The truck has termendous power, it use to be a 4 banger. But the 350 is the way to go. Use a mech. fuel pump and leave the other in the tank alone. I\'ve put 1400 miles on mine and have no issues.
