Hi,

I\'m in the process of doing a complete build up of a 1989 S-10 with a 350. I bought a rear disc brake kit from a guy who couldn\'t get it to work on his truck. Everything is brand new!

Anyways, I\'ve heard two different stories about putting these kits on. One is that I need to change master cylinders to one that is made for disc/disc. The secong story I\'ve been hearing is that there is a valve which can be installed in the rear brake line for the disc brakes.

Any info you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. This is my first build up so any advice would really help me out.

Thanks,

Steve

What kit did you get or do you know?

Depending on the kit you might have to use a different master cylinder.

the valve you\'re refering to is called a proportioning valve. I have a factory style set up and use a stock master cylinder and proportioning valve.

The valve you are talking about is an adjustable proportioning valve. They are made so that you can adjust the pressure going to the rear wheel. Summit sells them for under $40 hope this helps. SSB

I\'m not too sure which kit I got. The guy I bought it from said something about the calipers being off of a cadilac. That doesn\'t seem right to me but I\'m new to this stuff.

Thanks for your help,

Steve

I found that if you take a housing from a 80\'s transam w/ disc brakes you just have to remove and replace the spring perches and run a 87 iroc master cylinder..thats whats on mine works great...

I have a ford 8.8 rear disc set up and all I have to do is just replace the pads befor they are 3/4 worn because not nuff pressure to rear other than that mine works.

Just hook up the way it is and go from there. It might just work fine. If not try in steps portionning valve than if needed master cylinder.
