283 horse power

i just swapped for a 283 i dont know what its out of or nething i aint even sure its a 283 the engine code is 3849852 and if i can rememeber right its a older 283 how could i get a lot of cheeper hp outa it thanks for all the help

I just look it up for you at www.mortec.com. It is 283, that casting number was used from 1957 to 1966. I hope that helps you out.

thanks for the info its nice to find out i was partly right now does anyone know how easy or good they are to build mildly for a s-10 i can get another s-10 to v8 for a few 100 bucks thanks for all the help and info



p.s. does anyone know a guess on stock hp and tq ratings

most 283\'s had somewhere between 220-260hp, the good ones had the 1hp per CI, the 283hp 283......but to build one cheap.....it would be easier and cheaper to get a 350 and start there....parts are cheaper http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

ya i know a 350 would be cheaper and easier i already helped with one only thing is i have 15 bucks in this 283 and its complete and needs nothing not even rebuild but i am going to newayz needs more power only lookin for around 300 hp its going to be daily driven and what about a 3 inch body lift and the swap the s-10 already has a 3 inch body and 3 inch suspention thanks
