I need a welder to do my exhaust and problaby a couple of patch panels on another car.I found a local guy that would do the complete exhaust for $700, he said he would have to use converters.I thought that it was too high.I went ahead and bought me some exhaust pipes and mufflers for 150.00.I am looking at this welder.http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=9011

I am a novice when it comes to welding.Do you think this welder will work?If it will work, i would save about 350.00 by doing the exhaust my self.Is it a decent welder?

ya that welder will work. before ya do weld the pipes thou i would start welding little bits of pieces of metal to get the machine set up and get used to it. that way ya don\'t blow holes thru the pipes.!

That flux core wire can be tricky. You have to chip the slag off the weld just like a stick welder. So be careful not to weld over slag if you go over the same spot.

i had that welder i didn\'t like it but if thats all you are going to do it will work but i would save your money and buy some thing better like a miller i pay 650 for my 135 amp mig with the gas and wire

It should be able to do the job but stay away from flux core wire. That stuff never welds good. Get some Argon/Co & mig wire & you should be in there like Prego sauce. lol

Thanks for the advice. I looked at the add a little closer and noticed that i could also use regular wire, but it doesnt mention anything about a gas hookup.I would think that you would have to use gas in order to use reguar wire.Am i correct?

Yep, Argon gas. And when you change from inner core to gas you have to change polarity of electric internally to unit. That\'s what I have to do with my Lincoln.....maybe that one has a switch or sumpin\' tho.
