I just installed a 350 remanufactured engine. I have less than 300 miles on it. I am getting engine oil in the flex plate inspection pan. It is not coming from the trans. I t seems I have a leak around the rear seal. Is there anything that I can add to the oil to solve this. I hate to have to take the engine back out.

If it is the rear main seal you can change that without taking the engine out. I just changed mine. Just about as much work as pulling the engine though since I had to take the tranny and transfer case out to change it.

check the back of your intake manifold aswell ive seen a few leaks that started there and ended up in the pan just a thought . another idea is to run a decent oil seal restorative in your oil a lot of times theres some dirt or something in the seals this will practicaly push eat the contamination and let the seal work again but follow the directions to the letter and dont get the cheap stuff it\'ll just chunk up in the engines oil passages and cause you a lot more problems..

If you running a high volume pump and thicker oil, that will cause it to leak, if i run 20W50 oil in mine it leaks all over the place, but with 10W40 it never leaks a drop.

Yeah like ice queen said check and double every where around the intake manifold. after putting in a rebuilt 350 mine started leaking too. i had pulle the engine and sent it back to the machine shop the cahnge the seal and gave it back, still leaked. found the oil pressure sending unit was the problem at the back of the intake. so check everything.

yepp clean it up check again. i had a leak at the front and i thought it was the oil pan gasket at the timing cover cuz it was always wet, i spent alot of time with that and went with one piece gasket and still leaked, turned out that it was leaking from timing cover tabs. i wasn\'t very happy but atleast i did find out what was wrong. make sure ya look closely!

i would not put any seal sealer in it ..since it is a new motor ...a sealer makes oil your seal swell up and will cause more problems ...if it was on a older motor than yea....go to auto zone or pep boys...etc..and get some die and a black light...put the die in th oil and start the motor and let it run for 10-20min...take the black light and the die will stand out like a sore tumb.....any good shop can do this also...if it is a rear main seal ...it pretty easy if you know how to do it to change....is your block a 2 or 1 piece seal...1986 and up blocks are 1 piece

Thanks for the suggestions. I found the leak. It was around my chrome valve covers, all the way in the back.

Thats another common problem on chrome valve covers cause the gasket cant really seal all that well to a flat smooth surface like chrome. i used some hi temp sislicone to mate the covers with gasket and havent had any leaks yet.
