Was going to change my oil and filter today for first time on this truck, (have had for 3 months) and cant get the oil filter off cause its so close to the header. On top of that, since its so close, there is a hole burned in the filter with a small oil leak...What 2 do? http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

Well,

you might end up cutting it off.

Before you do though, you might want to look into getting a remote filter kit so you can move it to an open area.

Well, I\'m leaving at 4am for Myrtle Beach...Any quick suggestions and if I leave the oil filter in, how many quarts will I have to put in?

If u say its leaking its good idea to get it changed! before ya go anywhere. little hole can become very messy. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif

What headers do you have? mine are about a inch or 1/2 away. Well try a screw driver hammer it in and twist off it works for me! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

I\'ve still got factory headers on it. Is there a filter that is shorter than whats on it? I dont even know what # oil filter to use. I think I have a 82-86 camaro 350.

If there is not enough room to remove the old filter, then there is not enough room to install a new filter (if it is the same length!)

Can you unbolt the header at the engine then lower them to give you enough clearance? If it is already leaking thru a small hole it\'s bound to get bigger which is bad news! Hope you make it to the Grand Strand, SC.

just stick a screwdrive through where you will be able to turn it(this step is important) make sure you will be able to turn it then just hand tighten the new one........but buy a relocator kit it so you can install it so you dont have to go through this again

It looks like I\'ll be better off just unbolting the header/exhaust pipe to get to it. Thanx for all the help! The beach was a blast and only met one other guy with a v8 in his S10. There were some very nice Chevys cruisin! Got a pic of a Badass 4x4 S10. Will have it uploaded to my pics soon. Again, thanx for the help!

I bought a filter relocator kit and couldn\'t get it to fit. The oil lines as they came out of the adapter were to close to the headers. I wasted a lot of time and money trying to get it right. I ended up buying Russell 90 degree swivel fittings to be used with steel braded line. Should of done that in the first place.

remote oil filters are always to close to the headers to work on a v-8 s-10. you said factory headers, did you mean manifolds? the hooker full length headers clear perfectly, but the hedman full length headers are in the way of the filter. i prefer the hedmans, but there in the garage hanging on the wall because of the filter interference.
