When i give it some gas, smoke comes outta teh valve cover breather.. not alot but a little. I did have a moroso brether on it, that just had holes at the bottom, and it shot a little oil onto the top of my valve covers, so now I replaced it with an edelbroke race filter, and it still has oil comming onto the top of the valve covers, and I don\'t know exactly where its comming from.. only on the valve cover on the driver side with the breather.. and also my pcv valve thing, if I unhook it, the carburator is sucking air, so thats working... whut else?! Thanks.. -Adam

sounds like you still have some blow by. is it a new motor?

what kinda miles on it. is it broke in good? can\'t be anything but blow by unless your valve covers have no baffles under the breather holes.

its got a rubber grommet on the breather. not sure on the miles, and not sure about the break in, its got a bigger cam and anti pumper lifters or soemthign my dad says.. honestly, I do\'nt know a whole lot about the engine break down, but I know how it went in and how everything on the outside of the engine is done, because me and my dad done it all..

Did you put too much oil in the engine?

Are you sure that the PVC system is functioning properly?

not sur eabout it functioning properly, but it sucks on the carb end when u pull it off the valve cover...

Being a youngen at 17, not exact, but im pretty sure blow by is when the piston rings dont make perfect contact with the cylinder walls and when conbustion happens, they allow exhaust by the rings, down into the crankcase, and then i guess back up. I also thing wrong sized rings might do that, because when they expanded, they wouldnt close, so that might be the problem.

Is it smoke or is it vapor? It could naturally be moisture burning off.

its quite nornal for a newly rebuild engine to have blowby for the first 5K of its life anything after 5K suggest you have a serious problem on your hand and you should do a compression check on each cylinder.

none baffeled valve covers will cause the breather to smoke, mine at higher R\'s shoots oil right up and out the breather, being to far advanced will cause it to smoke also. Crome moly rings are good for not seating until several thousand miles, so blow by will be there until they seat. And every engine produces some blow by..if it didn\'t it would blow the rings out everytime you started it.

Mine did same with new chrome valve covers...didn\'t before...could be chrome coating burning off residual crap...???
