Don\'t foreget to get a oil filter relocater kit! the stock filter will hit the shaft for front diff, i would get a different trans, that stock one isn\'t very strong if ya gonna beef up ur motor a bit. goodluck!! i just took the 4x4 outa my truck , don\'t go anymore so i made things easy !

I would recommend finding a 700R4 out of a 4x4 fullsize. That way it will bolt right up to the engine and the stock transfer case. That is what i did worked awesome didnt even need to shorten the driveshaft.

why should you not lift a 4x4? and why would the stock drivetrain not work in a lifted 4x4?
This is a question for the above message.
Hi, If you are planning on doing the swap here is what you will need.
Larger radiator - One out of a mid 80's corvette will do the trick.
Modified oil pan - The four wheel drives need a goofy shaped pan.
Motor mounts - the mounts HAVE to be for a 4wd conversion. The 2wd versions will give ya problems
Exhaust - You can find headers that will clear everything on the 4wd. also, mid 80's camaro manifolds may work - but not 100% sure
Finally, Your tranny will not work - Your bellhousing will NOT bolt up to a small block chevy. You have 2 common choices to fix that problem -
Get a 700r4 tranny from a 4.3lt V6, or from a v8 engine, and have your tailshaft, and 4wd adapter from your old tranny put on the new one. OR, buy a Turbo 350 tranny, and get the conversion kit to make the turbo 350 bolt up to your transfer case.
I have the oil pan(pre '86), new headers, motor mounts, and new radiator I may be willing to sell. Email me at tawd@sbcglobal.net if your interested.
