This rounds on me....

I put a 305 in my 85 S10 2WD, 5 spd, Blazer 11 years ago. Back then the early 80 Firebird/Camaro manifolds were the way to go. The headers that were available then required too much work to get them to work. The exhaust manifolds were a piece of cake. I eventually got one of those slim racing steering knuckles to give me a little more clearance between the column and the manifold.

Well its 11 years later and I\'m think of making some changes to my \"Z10\". One of those is putting headers on with dual exhaust with the pipes coming out just in front of the rear wheels. I\'ve looked through this section and there are alot of opinions on which header to use. My question is this, is there one out now that doesn\'t require body or frame re-work and I can install without pulling the motor out.

I am running the smaller hi-torque starter. I\'m not looking for the cheapest route. The best header out there that will not be a pain to install with the motor installed.

Get the Headman long tubes, and get them JetHot coated for the looks and the cooler running. They require no modification to the frame or anything. They are pretty simple to put in and will give you good lowend torque and good high end hp as well. If money is really no problem, get a set of the Stahl headers($1,800 complete) but i would imagine that they do require some mods of the frame, because they come out just behind the front tires.

those hedders are sweet and will offer big performance gains, only one problem the engine is a 305,after experiencing a .35 tenths loss in e.t. in my old 91 tpi z28 305 5spd using the long tubes,i put the shorties back on.i realize ithe engine is in a different chassis but the cubic inches are still the same.add cubic inches then do long tubes..

Which manual trannies are you guys using? I never found any s-10 headers that cleared the camaro slave cylinder when using the T5 from the f-bodies. I had to weld up my own collector on my shorties to clear it.

i have super comp headders on mine ..long tubes...i had 45 kinds of hell putting them on ..so i had to pull my motor to install them...shorties are ok i gues...they just dont make as much power...than there is stahl which is like 1100-1800.00 and you have to put sterring stops on the sterring and you have to move your brake lines and have no fender wheels in it...and than you have to buy different plates to bolt to your heads because the stahl headers use the brodix head flange.. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif the super comp only have a 2.5in collector and the headmens have a 3in collecter....

I\'m running the Borg Warner T5 that came with my Blazer. My slave cyclinder is out of a Toyota Landcruiser and the mounting bracket came from Advance Adapters.

Thanks for the info on the headers. Who sells the long Hedman? I\'m assuming there made just for V8 S10\'s and should be listed like that in a Summit mag? Are these the 3 piece headers that I\'ve read about?

Summit and Jegs sell them. Jegs has them for $299 i think.Might me a littl e cheaper. Oh and yes they are 3 peice, but i think you\'ll like that cause it makes them easier to install and work on stuff. And mine have never leaked

I opted to stay with the manifolds, ran 2\" pipes off the manifolds into a 3\" collector and 3\" all the way back. The CAT and series 30 flowmaster inlets and outlets were opened 3\". Sound is great. I can tell I\'ve lost a little low end torque but I think I gained some highway MPG! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

go with flow tech\'s they\'re cheap and all yo have to do is remove the rod between the column and the steering box and they bolt in no problem without pulling the motor... then reinstall the steering rod.. they work really well and are cheap like i said

What about clearance on the passengers side? I\'m running AC so I have the larger air box. I\'ve seen some installations where they had to cut a section out of the airbox. Advance Adapters used to sell a pice of sheet metal to fill it in. I even saw one install where the headers were hooked up to the exhaust pipe via a hole on the passengers side of the hump. I am runnning the racing type steering u-joint so I have plenty of room on the drivers side. Do you know of any places I can go to see what these headers look like (both installed and uninstalled.)

my old manifolds were off of a cutlass with a 305... you need the 2 flange manifold on the derivers side because of steering shft clearance.. and you will probably have to move your column over by drilling new holes in teh floor plate and pussing it over and reinstalling the screws

Meathead you need the manifolds from a

Monte/Cutlass/Regal?GrandPrix 78-87 or a Camaro/Firebird 82 to 92 to get the correct manifolds. You will have to have an oil pan with a dipstick in it if you do not have a mid 80\'s up block with the dipstick in the rh side.

You will also need to have the heads with the 7th hole for the pass side manifold or an adapter kit to get the last hole in the back.

Good luck.
