im finally getting to the end of my conversion, and man has it been a loooong one.

this truck was a mess when i got it, had to redo just about everything from the front bumper to the rear bumper, i dont know how this truck stayed on the road.

anyway, i have an s10 longbed (2 piece driveshaft), 360sb, 350trans (with the long tail), everything went in perfectly, the trans mount even fell right into the stock location, didnt have to mod the crossmember.

my question is how much room should there be available for the driveshaft to slide in and out of the transmission, and would it be better to have a 1 peice driveshaft made, to reduce the chance for vibrations?

oh and what is the common set of gears that came in a 2.8 v6 long bed setup? <- just wondering.

thanks, have not been here in a while, the place has changed a lot, looks good, more functional, good job mike

same setup on my truck, i just split the diffrence between the trans and the carrier bearing on the driveshaft and it hasn\'t given me any trouble, if you havent already, you may slot the crossmember so you can slide the trans and engine back as close to the firewall as you can to get more bite on the splines.

i converted a s10 w/ 2 piece driveshaft a few years ago .i just slide the mid shift bearing toward the trans as far as it would go and called it good.

most 2.8 trucks came with 4.10 gears so they could get out of there own way pop the cover and divide the 2 numbers on the pinion gear or there may be a option sheet in the glove boxthat would tell you

i cant slide it back any further, the drive shaft is too long, im going to have to cut it, thats why i was wondering how much sliding room i need, and since i have to mod the dive shaft anyway i was tempted to eleminate the 2 peice deal and go for a sold drive shaft.

damn 4.10, i was hoping for at least 3.73

i will open it up and see.

oh by the way, this driveshaft headache is the only issue ive had to deal with

My 83 came with 3:08s if you got the long tail stock just visit the local junk yard and buy a drive shaft out of a older s10 without an overdrive trans, thats what I did and it was a bolt in no modifing

1 more Q for you,

is your drive shaft a 1 peice or 2?

I left it as a 2pc because the truck is so low and long.
