sounds like your problem is the front yoke on the driveshaft..there should not be a hole at the end of the input splines for fluid to come out. If the yoke is two inches inside it should be past the seal and should be fine. there is only one seal.
actually you need the hle for your yoke to slide back and forth and yes the front yoke needs to be inside the tailshaft houseing more than 2 inchs, you will wobble out your bushing ect and have the leak that you have when you are to short... you want as much splined surface area (coverd by the yoke)as this is what seals the hole you are encountering
also keep in mind that you need to allow the driveshaft to float in and out without bottoming the yoke on the tailshaft

I stand corrected dont\' know what I was thinkin! Yoke should be all the way except for 1 to 2 inches and hole allows air to escape allowing the yoke to slip easily. DUH

2 Types of yokes
1st Yoke with small hole in rear. Needs yoke tube seal [Inside tail housing]
2nd. No hole. Cap at rear can come loose and leak[Replace yoke or weld in place]
