Piece of cake sir! Like Mike said there is a little hook at the end of the cable, take the bolt out of the tranny and lift up on the cable. You\'ll see the little hook at the end of it. Just undo it. If you\'re going to put a new on it might be wise to use something to hold it up and put the new one in.

Hey guys,

I\'m resurrecting this thread due to a question I\'ve got. When I bought my truck, the kickdown cable wasn\'t attached. Looking around elsewhere, people are saying that can be bad for the tranny. To me, something as \"simple\" as a Turbo 350 should be fine without it, right? I don\'t mind it not downshifting automatically - I\'m thinking it might get really scary in a 2-1 downshift . . . Thanks!

You are fine with it disconnected on a th350.

It is the overdrive transmissions that need the cable hooked up, because its not only a kick down cable, it also adjust line pressure. They call it a TV cable, it tells the trans how much throttle you are using. TH350\'s are fine without it, but for everyday use, just spend the money to buy the parts and use it, manual shifting can get real old when you are passing.

The down shift cable also operates the upshift speed also. With out it hooked up, and the shifter only put into \'d\' then it will shift too soon and will eventully kill the trans.

If not hooked up just remember to start off in 1st all the time.

I speak from experance. I had built an 80 malibu sw sleeper. 350 stroker w/t350. Had the tranny built by a locol t-shop. There racer guy had said that it should be hooked up and I admit I didn\'t, hook it up because I got the engine from a 4spd car and had no braket. $1100 down the drain.

Again, it will work but you must always remember to shift through all gears.

Thanks for the replies. It\'s not a daily driver, so I\'m not too concerned about getting bored shifting. The cable is there, with the bracket (not hooked up), but something\'s wrong - haven\'t been able to check it out yet. My mechanic cousin says it should be able to be moved by hand, but it can\'t. Doesn\'t move at all. Any ideas to look for when we get under there to check it out? Also, when driving normally, what\'s a good RPM to shift at? 3kish?

Thanks,

Jeff
