I want to keep the stock 700R4 thats in the truck when I do the 350 swap. My question is can I keep the wiring harness hooked up to it or will I have to rig the lockup up on a manual switch since I will not have any of the computer controls/stock gauges hooked up?

What tells the converter to lock up any way? Is it a signal from the computer or what.

I guess I dont mean to sound stupid I am an old school TH350 kinda guy and never had to worry about computers or wiring harnesses in the transmission or any thing. I think the lower 1st gear will be nice with the 3.42 gears and really want to keep it.

Thanks

The truck is an 88 S10 with a 2.8 and the RPO decodes as a 700R4. Now some one tells me the 2.8 has a different bell housing? I just picked up the truck yesterday and have not gotten a chance to check it out real good..

I did find a vacuum switch at summit that can be hooked up when installing the tranny on a later model vehicle.....

Its verified, the 2.8 700r4 wont work on a small block. Looks like I am going with a TH350 any way.

yep..the 2.8 is a 60degree motor...and not the 90 like the 3.8..4.3..and all small block chevy\'s and big block\'s...the tranny will not bolt up and if it did a small block would eat it up in no time...a 700 from a camaro can be had at most salavge yard\'s for about 350-500.00...the 92 and older 700 are shifted by a cable..and not the computer..and all is need is a lock up switch...
