ok im lookin for another project. s10 with a v8 and 4wd. the 4wd area is definately not my strong point. this next truck im doin is for my girlfriend so im not putting anything too crazy in it. i know its gonna get a 305 but as for a stick transmission thatll work with a 4wd and the transfer case im not too sure. ive scratched the idea of the stock t5 that is behind the 93 and earlier models.

im pretty sure all that leaves me with the new venture (nv3500). and as for the transfer case i have no clue, ive never done a 4wd before. i have 2 trains of thought right now. either get a 4wd blazer with a 4.3 and an nv3500 and just swap the motor and keep the rest of the original drivetrain. or get a 4wd blazer regardless of what drivetrain is in it and get a donor truck and swap everything out of the donor. my thought is kinda leanin towards plan a. its alot less hassle all around and a 4.3 blazer is already set up for a bigger motor.

first question is will the 4.3 bellhousing/flywheel/clutch assy. mount to a smallblock? im pretty sure it will

2. will the t-case mounted to the 2.8s, 2.5s and 4.3s take abuse from a v8? b/c im lookin to do some offroading with this so i need a strong t case.

2a. will the t-case from a 2.5 or a 2.8 or a 4.3 even mount to a trans other than the t5?

2b.how many different transfer cases were put in the s 10?

2. if a stock t5 transfer case wont bolt to an nv3500 then what transfer case(s) should i be looking for and in what vehicles? fullsize pickup? fullsize blazer?

3. are there any other 5 speed trannys other than the new venture that i might want to consider?

4. will i have to change the lengths on one or both of the driveshafts?

5. will the stock 4.3 tbi wiring harness hook up to a tbi v8? pretty sure it will. my thought on this is pull the v6 put the v8 in on the v6 harness turn the key and go (in a nutshell)

--i know about the computer part already

6. anybody wanna wire this for me? i hate wires

7. anybody got any money they wanna get rid of? lol

any and all advice yous can give me will most definately be immensely appreciated. this is new and scarey territory for me here.

I found at these sites that the NV3500 was offered with the NP231C tranfer case in 1990 and later. I believe that they were faded out in 1992 and they did not actually disappear until later on in the 90\'s (96ish I think). You are looking for the trucks with 2 floor shifters, since the other Tcases are electronic and need a bunch of that wire stuff that you mentioned you \"like\". I believe that there is an article on the homepage of this site about the NV3500 install so that will answer your questions on the clutch and all. Anyway I have the NP207 Tcase and it is fine. I run nitrous and make about 500HP and 700lb-ft of torque. Let us know if you need more info. Sorry it took me so long to figure this out. Oh and the mounting will work fine, since the tranny will be the same length and the Tcase mounts to the cross-member. The motor mounting is just right with the AA mounts. Just make sure you have the matching tranny-TC and you should be fine.

GM light trucks that are 1/2 and 3/4 ton are all 27 (or 26) spline. The NP207 and NP231 are both basically the same but the NP231 has a lower granny low gear. They are pretty tough and can take the abuse. One thing to keep in mind, the GMC syclone and the typhoon both used the BW4472 AWD tcase. Last I checked its close if not the same torque and HP ratings and it was sitting on a 280 HP turbo 4.3 with 300 ft lbs or torque.

The biggest weakness in these cases is the chain can stretch some. On a part time 4 wheel, this is not really a problem but a full time, can lead to \"clunks\" in the drive line. You may want to overhaul your tcase before you install it for good measure.

If you want a real tcase, check out the atlas from advance adapters. That thing is a beast and is practically indestructible. But for $2300 it had better be http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Do not use the T5 with a V8, it WILL fail. Since you have a T5 with 4x4 output shaft and tail housing, you can sell that thing for some money. They are pretty rare in the scrap yards. I just gave $450 for one after looking for a month all over TN and parts of GA.

The small block V8 (305, 327, 350, 383, 400) will bolt up with no problem if it had a 4.3 but not the 2.8. It was a 60 degree v6 and its pattern is completely different. Advance adapters makes a bell housing that will allow you to use the T5 with the V8 but its not cheep.

Dunno about the 5 speed thing. My truck is gonna be converted to an auto for drivability and gas mileage. If I had extra money, I would already have finished http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif.
