I was running around and I noticed a noise in my tranny. It is a whining or a metallic noise present in L 2 or 3rd also in reverse. In Park and Neutral it is quiet. The noise is different in the forward than the reverse gears. The fluid was low (1 quart) so I added some and the noise went away then came back. Let me know what you think.

So I have driven it some more and now I lost 3rd gear all together. It only shifts into 2nd with a large jerk. I also have to sit still for a while before it shifts into 1st. I was wondering if you all think it could be the case that causes this. I did not notch the crossmember that much with the NP207 transfer case and adapter from Advance adapters. The tranny before this one had the same problems. It just lost 3rd gear then 2nd. Could it be that the case of the tranny is twisted or something because of the way it is mounted in the truck? It is not really leaking fluid (the drain plug is wet, but that is it) and it usually drives fine cold, but it has really been acting up warm. Any input is appreciated.

I do not think it would be the case....if it was in a bad bind; then the case would crack.

Have you checked to see if your kickdown cable is still attached inside the transmission?

Are you sure that the tranny fluid is at the correct level and that you are using the correct fluid? Also check or replace modulator valve. If that is all good then drop the pan (ie make a mess) and ensure that the filter is installed correctly and check for metal shavings/chunks in the bottom of the pan. If there are chunks, gulp! goodluck

SO I checked and you guessed it, shavings of metal. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_frown.gif I guess I am going to have to think of a solution here. Suggestions? It is a Truckmaster TH350 4X4 from TCI. It is mated to an NP207. I was thinking, maybe I go 2wd? I measured and the driveshaft is 21\" away from the TH350 mount, so the only thing I could do is either get a TH400 with a 12\" tailshaft and a new yoke for the tranny to attach the driveshaft, or just get another drivehsaft and another tranny. My budget does not allow a new stickshift, nor an OD auto brand new.

I believe that I beat this tranny up, since according to desktop dyno I make 496HP and 700lb-Ft of torque. I run around 170shot nitrous and shift manually. I just bought some slicks, too. Anyway as usual any input is appreciated.
