i just got home from vistiin my brother at college 2 hours away. the whole way up and the whole way back theres this really nasty vibration coming out of the drivetrain. between 50 and 55 it shakes from the rear but i think thats tires. but from 65 on up it shakes really bad. it seems to be coming from the front but im not totally sure. i can hear whatever it is vibrating. also when i get onto the highway and im shifting from high 4th into 5th it makes a real ugly sound when i got the clutch pedal in. i cant even describe it, its just ugly. it made the sound only when the pedal was in, not before, not after. it only did it in high 4th into 5th. any ideas as to what it might be? any help would be appreciated.

The ugly noise when you push in the clutch is probably the throw out bearing. The vibration in 4th & 5th might be a bearing in the tranny going bad.

the noise is always there at speed regardless of if its in gear or not. i also forgot to mention. at about 85-90+ all vibration and noise totally goes away. the thing rides smooth as a babys butt. it suprised me as to how smooth it ran at that speed. now that i got to thinkin about it, a driveshaft bein out of phase will make it shake real bad wont it? or bad motor mounts? etc.

mine shook bad when the pinoin bearing was going out in the rearend. It was OK otherwise. Once I replaced the rearend and put in some new U-joints she rides fine.

Start with the obvious. Most driveline vibrations are caused by bad u joints.

I once bought a new transfer case to get rid of a vibration on my 94 (305TPI). As I was removing the rear driveshaft it felt a little stiff when I flexed it. I popped it out, you should have seen the mess inside. Yet when I tried to rattle it when it was in the truck there was nothing loose feeling. Point being, they aren\'t always real obvious. Know any one looking for a low mile NP231? Oh, if it were to come unglued at 85-90 you\'d better be on good terms with your higher power. lol

Simply drive at 85 - 90 mph all the time!!!! Actually vibration/noise could be many things. Most obvious = U joints. Could be lug nuts coming off. Bent rim, Carrier bearing no bueno(if ya have one), Tranny bearings, clutch discs disinagrating, Throwout bearing, Driver\'s side motor mount, Driveshaft threw a weight or received a blow to make unbalanced, Rear end differential going bad. Goodluck; hope it\'s the most obvious and cheapest to fix.

ran it to my boys at midas today. we put it up on the lift and ran it. you could see the driveshaft hoppin like mad. also ran it with no driveshaft to see if it was possibly in the trans. ran perfect with no driveshaft. so that eliminates it being in the front. im headded over to car-part.com to see about gettin a new one. ill take it from there.
