why does my stock fuel gauge on a 86 S10 bounce when i floor it or make a turn?

I guess the gas be moving around in there.

Take a glass of water and put a pingpong ball in it and take it with you for a ride. What happens to the ping pong ball???? That is what the float is doing inside your gas tank.

well.......what can i do to keep from havin to guess where the gas level is?.......get a diffrent fuel gauge system?

if your gauge is moving around so much you can\'t read it, something is wrong. The float in the tank could be trash. I have never changed one, so it could be a pain. Mine is also a 86 and doesn\'t move at all when i gas it. I would pull the tank and take out the pump. somethings not right in there.

Does the engine sputter when accelerating, and if so does the gas gauge rise all the way to the top when this happens?
