my speedometer cable is hooked up to the back of my turbo 350 but at the gague it spins around faster the faster i go....what do i need to do to get at least some sort of speed reading, even if its wrong it will still give me a general idea
the plastic gear inside the trans where the cable goes, need to find out which gear you need, depends on tire size trans etc..
I think the S10 Conversion manual has info on this. May be able to go to a good shop and they can get it squared away, it\'s not too hard.

Isn\'t the cable supposed to spin faster the faster you go? Is it way too fast? ie. reads 90 when your going 60? Some 350\'s were in cars with super high (low numerically) like 2.5 to 1.
If you have it in an S10 with 4.11\'s it will be way off. Some of the super high geared cars had a little reduction unit on the side of the transmission. I once took one apart (like fixin a watch) and reversed the position of the two gears inside. That brought me within about 10%.

that is wild,,,i too have never seen that before. just for the sake of asking, the speedo hasn\'t been damaged or was taken apart for any reason has it? and is it stock or after market?
i just took my speedo apart, and there are 2 prongs that spin around a magnet. The magnet is attached to the dial. So for your dial to spin around with the prongs, taht would mean the prongs are either bent into the magnet or corroded to it somehow. Take the speedo out and look in the back where the cable goes in.

personally i wouldnt get all fussy with it. them gears are $5 at the dealer. a complete speedo cable is $10 at auto zone and a speedo can be had real cheap at a yard. by the sounds of it you screwed up the speedo perty bad. a dealer should be able to help you out with the speed problem. tell em whats in it, what size rear and what size tires and they should be able to hook you up.
