View Full Version : 406 small..........17 yrs old project
Im 17yrs old and have been working on my first car for 3 years, a 1966 chevy k-20. I lost hope kinda and have waisted a lot of time and money, in it, so i got a beater truck. For 700 dollars i got a 1988 s-10 with 2.5 and 5 speed, 2wd, no power steering, brakes,ac or anything fancy. Just the hardcore basics. But it has 233k on the original motor and i was gonna fix up a performance 2.5, but its not worth it when i have a rebuilt, 406 SBC thats just sitting around doing nothing, i spent a lot of money in this. So i got a thinking, why not a v8 swap in the s-10. Well i did resaerch and crap and am most likely gonna do it. My mom says i can only spend so much of my money, so im resorting to making my parts at my votech school which i am taking machining, so the parts i can make is outstanding, i can do anything almost in their. I also get a grade too for the stuff i did. Well im almost done making some previous things, custom stuff to make this swap fit in my moms prce range, so next im thinking of making motor mounts like the ones where you can move the motor forward or backwards, ones that have to use the 2.8 mounts. But im not sure on the basic dimensions, i dont need everything cause im gonna make them different but i just some measurments to go by. I know this is asking for a lot, but oculd someone who has the conv mounts give me some measurments so i could make these in my class? Ik now they sell them, but im trying to keep in moms phttp://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/smileJap.gif range she has set for me.. Sorry if this is asking a lot..... thanks..... roy

you got a nice truck to start with there, good job. Good job on the paint. Doesn\'t look bad. For your question, just buy the mounts and headers, it will save you alot of time. I thought about making my own mounts, but for 50 to 60 bucks for new ones, thats a pretty damn good deal. I attempted to make headers once and they came out pretty good, but it took me about 9 hours, save your self the headache and do some begging with your mom to spend 60 for mounts and 100 for headers. It goes alot easier that way. And if it was me do something to get some power out of that motor. get some good heads, that will liven that baby up. Anyways good luck. you got a good start going. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

hey leroy, i looked at your site, you got some tallent with the body mods. i know how it feels with what your doin, im 17 too. i have a blazer with a 4.3 that im about to put a 400sb, i got the manual for the v8 conversion and it has plot stensils to fabricate your own body mounts. id be glad to give u the measurements...i have a faxmachine, if u have a fax or a school with a fax machine i could make copys of the page and give u excellent instructions. if not i could make a thumbnail on the paint and copy and paste. but just email m if u want any help
Thanks guys...The machine shop that i bought hte parts from and who did the machining used the desktop dyno to get a neighborhood estimate on the hp and lbs my motor has. He showed me 294hp 429lbs. The motor was going in an old chevy truck that was 4x4 and 3/4 ton. Does anybody else got a truck similiar to mine where they did a smiliar swap who wouldnt mind helping me some, talking with me? Thanks a lot guys........... roy
