My headers keep blowing out collector gaskets. I am gonna cut off the collector and weld a peice of pipe so it runns all the way under the cab. Anybody ever do this? http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif
I haven\'t done it yet. Isn\'t there a copper or some soft metal collecter gaskets out there? I thought I had seen them somewhere, never blow out.

you can use the flotech aluminum collector gaskets, they seem to last a while, opposed to the paper type.

The ones that came with the headers lasted about like a week if that and one blew. Then i repaced them with and aftermaket one , but also i took the cats outa my truck to flow the exhaust more freely and never had a problem. Dunno thou try the copper ones thou sure they will work.

i had \"down pipes\" made and bolted them to the header like normal then welded them together kinda making a full length header worked great

You know that if the hangers are solid mounted hangers that the exhaust sys cant move and that will put stress on the joints of the exhaust causing it to flex at the collector. This will cause a gasket to tear, copper alluminum or paper. Make sure that the sys can move around a little but not too much. You should be able to move it with a little bit of muscle but it shouldnt flop around either.
If all of this is taked care of, a copper gasket would be good and i dont see why it should blow considering that they hold up on high HP turbo cars where if a gasket blows you cant make boost.
