my brother gave me his 94 s10. 271K miles. it still runs really good but lacks power and believe it or not there is not a single dent in it. IT has a fresh 4l60 and front end bushings. My question is which engine would make for the easiest swap ( electronics, wireing and such ) also keeping in mind cost.
I also plan on installing a 2800 converter and either 3:73 or 4:10 gears.

The vortec or Gen1 small block is the easiest swap and it can be legal. Glad to see you join the community. Keep reading here and get the JTR book (available here also) as it answers many of your questions. Wait on the torque converter until you have chosen a cam.

a friend says the LT1 would be best. I am concerned about electronics. would the vortec, LT1 or any other motor be an easier choice for that purpose. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif

Glad to see a gen2 s10 fixing to go through the same headaches I\'ll be going through. I have a 98. I decided for my motor to get the Ls1 or Ls6. I think with the more streamlined look of the generation 2s the streamlined engine would go great. I have heard the problem with the Ls1/Ls6 is that they don\'t install easily because it is a different block. I have a freinds dad who has a machinery shop with layes, mills, welders, plasma cutters, and is a genius when it comes to building anything. But I am spoiled by that and a Ls1 build would much harder for most people. Go with the Lt1 or the Vortec. Either one would be an excellent choice and would be easy to find at a junk yard. The 4L60e is found in camaro\'s and will handle the power. Don\'t get the 4.10 gears. You\'ll burn out everywhere. See what gearing you have in your truck. I have a 3.42(The RPO code is GU6) and that will work perfect. If you get the wiring harness with your v8 I beleive it should work out fine. But ask other people that question.
