Has anyone gone this route? Cause I think that my braking capacity is marginal at best, with 6.5 inches of vacuum.Plus the brakes cannot stop the tires from smoking at 900 rpm. I heard that the newer s-10\'s had two piston calipers? Will any larger drums from other vehicles fit on the s-10?

i dont see why they wouldnt. youll end up needing the whole assy. though. and if your gonna go to the trouble id just throw disc brakes on it imho. you might need to do something with the master cylinder if you go to bigger drums, i know you have to with the rear discs

I would just test you VIN code and see what your breaking capacity should be. I had the same problem, until I adjusted the rear brakes. Now it holds pretty good. Also if you need to get more vacuum there are those little vacuum chambers that help with all that. Also replace all the rubber lines, since they collapse in the middle fast.

Upgrading your brakes won\'t help if you don\'t fix the vac. problem. I had a 72 Chevelle that wouldn\'t stop worth a crap, changed to disc on the front, didn\'t help. Added a vac. canister, fixed the problem....

I\'m going to the 98-99 Blazer 2wd spindles and calipers. These are the 2 piston calipers and will fit even the older S-10\'s These only come on the Blazers and 98-99 only. They have removable rotors and sealed bearings like a fornt wheel drive car. I was told by ZZ4 that this is the set up to go with, and after a little researce it looks like a bolt on. I went with rear disc\'s also and now if want to stop....I can do it in a heart beat.

And I agree with carguy, if you don\'t have good vac*,you\'ll never get it to stop good unless you go with manual brakes. Not my choice of a brake setup!

Good luck sir and hope I helped some,

Jeff.....

Thanks fasrnur

I do have a vac can and it does help a bit but not enough. Do I need the spindles from the 98-99 blazer or can i just get the calipers?

I\'m sorry to say anything about the spindles. Yes you will need the spindles as well. Go to car-part.com and you should find plenty of them there. Look for either the spindle or caliper and then call to see if they have them still on the truck. Thats how I got mine and they sold me spindle, hub and caliper as a package.

Hey Jeff,

Does that swap require modification of the master cylinder or brake booster? Howbout for the rear? I have heard rumors where stuff had to be changed but maybe that\'s on a different brake swap.

I have a \"how to\" on my newer blazer brake upgrade on my cardomain page. Theres a link on the bottom of my post.

If you can find them used, you can upgrade the brakes for cheap. I got my whole set up for $325 shipped to my door from florida to ohio off ebay. Buying everything new, it\'ll cost you almost as much as a Big Baer brake kit or even more.

I went to the tirerack and found some Powerslot Prostop11 rotors which are slotted and dimpled and some Hawk hp plus race brake pads, which should help the front brakes bite alot harder.
