Speedo Gear or Reluctor Ring?

I am using a 700R4 out of an \'86 Firebird which I believe is cable driven. I have a 4L60E in my \'94 S-10. I\'m trying to figure out the whole speedometer issue. I\'m lost. I was looking through the JTR website about the 4L60E tailhousing with speed sensor installed. Will that work if I just swap the tailhousings? Or do I have to use the diffo reluctor ring? I was told by a tech that the connectors should be the same. Does anyone know what I should do?

They make a kit that converts one to the other. It should be talked about in the JTR book.
