I have a T350 Tranny that I have sitting in my garage that I am using for my conversion. I know very little about the history of it besides it has the 6 inch tail piece and that it is probably from a car. It has a stamped \"Z\" on the top of the bell. Can any one tell me what this might mean or where to look for any other identifying features to figure out more about the tranny. Thanks.

I really don\'t think there was too much different about them or the different years. What do you need to know?

Thanks for the reply. Firstly, I am brain dead when it comes to auto transmissions. I was wondering what speed it was (e.g 3 speed automatic). Also does anyone know the rating for stock torque conv. I have the original but I have read that you should not use a used one you are not sure of the history on it. Thanks

You said that it was a Th-350..that means that its a 3 speed auto. 2.52, 1.52, 1.00 gears.

About the Torque converter, i would recomend buying a new converter for it, you shouldn\'t ever use a converter which you dont know where it has been and what it has been through. If you wanna race this truck at all at the track, any converter less than 3000 is not acceptable. If you go with less you will wish you had a bigger one later...i know from experiance. I have a Tci 2200 that i am trying to get rid of because it was not big enough for me at the time. Now i have a 3600+ non lockup stall on there. You should get a 3200 lockup style converter and you will be very happy with it http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

Agreed with Lightweight. Don\'t be afraid of a bigger converter. I know those trannies don\'t have overdrive, but as long as you get a lockup-style converter your rpms won\'t change on the highway from normal.

Couple that with a good stall torque ratio (2.5 or so) and a 3000+ rated stall speed and you\'ll simply LOVE it.

BTW, my Camaro gained nearly 8 tenths going to a lock-up style Vigilante 3500. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif

besides if that converter is messed up and you use it you could ruin your trans, more money.......

If (and probably does) the converter has or has had anything in it like dirt of corroded ATF then it will ruin the front pump and will then blow the tranny guranteed.

If you dont have the funds then at least buy a new stock replacement one for it.

Thnaks for the replies. It is a great help. TWOROTTEN, any books to suggest? I figured I would ask some cool folks here first. I went out last night to write down all the identifiers but was cut short by a skunk rooting around under my work bench! Again, Thanks for the replies.
