I have been online for a while looking at the Hughes performance 700R4 Transmission. Summit racing sells them with a matched Hughes converter for around $2,000 shipped. Although they are a overdrive tranny they are rated for 500HP of tire spinning shifts. The summit tech said they sell alot of them and hasnt seen one come back broke. They also have a higher first gear for better 60\' times. Is anyone running one??? It sounds like a great deal and a easy swap out for the stock 700r4 in my 91 S10. I just like to hear success stories before dropping $2Gs on any part.

If you can put all that power to the ground go for it but with that 3.06 first gear ratio it will be some task to plant the power. I had a 700R4 beefed up with what was supposed to be a good converter and it is totaled, and the planetaries and most hard parts are f***ed.$800 in hard parts plus converter. Just my 2 cents though. If they say it won\'t break go for it.

I know that TCI trannies break and they are supposed to be right there with B&M. So make sure that you give them all of your numbers and over estimate your power. I run 175shot of nitrous and my TCI TH350 truckmaster took 10 trips to the track (~20-25 passes) and now it is stuck in 1st. It never even hooked up. So make sure that you figure out the torque you will make, since that is what will destroy parts. If they say yeah, then get the tranny from those that will give warranty more than 3 months.

thanks for all the info guys, i wanted to do a easy swapout for my current 700r4. but now im thinking long term its going to be easier to convert to a TH400 and be safe. Ive run near 700HP through one on a prostreet i use to own and never a problem.

What ever you do, don\'t do business with TPI, i bought their \"supposed to be bullet proof\" 700 w/convertor i.e. $1974.00 and it would not work properly from day one, and it puked out the flluid from the overflow and lasted about 500 miles and died and they won\'t do anything about it, won\'t return calls, or accept certifed letter, or respond to email.
