If there is anyone who has installed a LT1 type 6 spd into an 80\'s type S-10, which has a ZZ series block from GM, I think this is the 1 piece rear main, please give me some help!

I ma pretty sure that people have done it, and that they had to have the shifter further back than factory. I also think that the crossmember needs changing. Maybe those guys will read this too and help. There is info out there.

Thanks Speeder for the replly back, if you get anymore info. shout at me. there is a company in Flordia, Lee\'s High Tech trucks and all they do is S-10\'s but he don\'t have anything on the internet that gives the details as they perform the work themselves in their, but he can\'t get to it until Jan 04.

I\'ve talked to a few guys about the T56 6 speed. Everyone has said it\'s alot of work, Look around in the tranny forum. I was going to use the T56, but I am going with the camaro T5 becuase of cost, availability, and ease of install, the T5 is a good tranny, and will hold about 300 Ft/lbs

Yes, you are right Bob, but my truck has a ZZ430 crate engine and supposed to make 430 lbs tq, and i like to run a deep gear, and the 6 spd is perfect for that with the .50 to 1 6th gear ration,, turns a 456 into 228 for crusing and parts breakiing Tq. in the 1st 4 Gears.

I didnt see you had the ZZ430, There\'s a guy around here that has the T56 in a S-10, I didn\'t get to drive it, but when I sat in it, the shifter was too low, and back to far my taste. He had a short shift kit, that didn\'t help. It would depend on how far back you are positioning the engine too.

you need to talk to ZZ4Blazer, the man knows trannys, he has a 6 speed now

Thanks Bob,

I have had this truck on the street, and had paid a lot of money($1974.00) to build supposedlly bullet proof 700R4 w/2500 stall convertor, Trans cooler, the whole kit, and the tranny was not right from the beginning and in less 800 miles, it died!!! and TPI won\'t do anything about it and ignores my call, emails, registered letters, I have a car now with the 6 spd, so I thought I would try it, but Im finding there\'s not a lot out there to help you through it and it seems it is going to be terribly expensive,, based on tranny, clutch, i.e. around $3000 plus fabrication labor which I cannot do.

I may just try another 700 or may Art Carr or someones bullet proof 2004R, i like the gear spread better on the 200, more like a turbo 350 w/ overdrive.

Its not too hard. You will need to use the LT1 flywheel, bellhousing, clutch, stater, and the slave cylinder. All those are unique to that tranny.

You\'ll need to make a line for the s10 master cylinder to the camaro slave. I belive that the crossmember has to go back around 3\", and you\'ll need a new whole in the floor.

Thanks zz4Blazer for the info. I have heard that the shifter comes thru the floor back pretty far, i have bucket seats, so shouldn\'t be a real problem unless the angle is completely off

thanks anyway!

Unless your really short, and have your seat way up, you shouldn\'t have a problem.

No, don\'t have that problem, drive with seat all the way to rear in all cars just about.

thanks for the info.

Check with D&D Performance. They have T56\'s that are modified to just bolt into older vehicles with older trannies. They also have several different positions available for the shifter. I think for less than $2500 you can get one. Their website is ddperformance.com.
