View Full Version : 700r4 bell housings
I just had the 700r4 rebuilt for the back of my rebuilt 2.8. Now that I\'m doing a small block swap to a 350ci is there any way I can reuse the tranny. I\'m sure the bellhousings are different. Is this the only difference in the trannies?

That and I think the 8 cylinder ones use more friction and steel discs in the clutch packs. (they are stronger)

If it is an 87 or newer you can swap the internals into a V8/4.3 case. If it\'s 86 or earlier
don\'t waste the time.
Problem is that the governor springs and other little things are tuned to the engine it is meant to go behind. Unless you are an expert, you could end up with some little annoyances, like short shifting or repeated down shifting, etc.
A good used pickup or van v8 tranny goes pretty cheap. By the time you buy seals and gaskets, etc. to swap internals the difference isn\'t that much. And you\'ll be happier with the results.

No you can\'t reuse it. It won\'t bolt up.
