Carb Vs. EFI
I read the JTR books, and they really like the 305/350 TPI + TBI engines.
I see that prolly 99% of you run carb.
My truck needs to be reliable, but I\'m not going over any huge hills, or driving in really really cold weather. Going the carb route seems much easier, No computer, No crazy wireharness, and less $$$ am I right? What are some draw backs to carb?, (my truck is a 92 2.8V6 with efi)
If you think the Carb 350 is the best bet, whats a good car to get them out of?
thanks guys

you might get a little better mileage with EFI, and maybe easier starts.

If you\'re looking for a good 350 , look in the Conversion Vans in your local salvage yard. Most 3/4 ton Conv vans have the LS9 350 some are 2 bolt , some are 4 bolt.
These motors are overlooked by people because they are a pain to take out , but , these are some of the best seasoned blocks and have lived a pampered life ( no drag racing ) with regular oil changes.
And before you throw out the EFI idea , most of the 88 89 90 3/4 ton vans come with a 350 TBI with a stand-alone computer (under the drivers seat) that is easy to remove (with harness)

Carb is a lot easier. Shoot, you can buy a carb intake manifold for most newer motors these days.
So, if you decide to go that route, you don\'t have to look for an older carbed motor.
If you know your stuff, a carb can be very reliable, powerful, and even get decent milage.
Are you going to be driving this in the winter?

The LS9 isn\'t the BEST block, I\'d reserve that claim for the bowtie or the world products blocks.
But the LS9 is the truck/van block , and is IMHO the better block from what is commonly available.
