Dash mods

Can you change a late 80\'s dash to a early 80\'s flat dash to accept Autometer Ultra-lite gauges? Will the dash go in with out to many mods, ie wiring for headlights, steering column, heater controls? I want to replace all of the gauge cluster with Autometer and cant find a good way to do it with the late 80\'s dash style, the flat dash looks like it will accept the Autometer gauges in the existing holes with a more original look.

Oh man, I have a REAL good pic on my laptop at home, but not at work. There is a member on S10forum in Germany that has an orange 1st gen. His is super clean.
