what would be a good compression ratio for an engine to get the most hp out of it, but still be streetable? its also gonna get some laughing gas

I would say it all depends on how much you\'re going to drive it. To call it \"streetable\" first you have to determine how often you\'re oing to drive it and how far. I have seen engines with 12-1 compression and still be \"streetable\",but with the gas now a day\'s gas you couldn\'t drive it every day unless you were very rich or had stock holdings in an oil company. LOL I myself would not run anything over 11-1 compression. There are alot of 9-1 motors out there making good power and will handle the spray very well.
Sir you will get alot of advise on the subject so be prepared. The best thing is to consult as many engine builders as possible and listen to what they all hve to say. Then make your own decission. Just my opion.

Keep in mind you have dynamic compression and static compression. We are building a motor this weekend for my Grandpa\'s old truck. He ordered it new in 78. We\'ve had it in the family ever since. It is about 11.25 STATIC compression ratio, but about 8.3 DYNAMIC compression ratio. It will thump on pump gas.
Since you cant start building compression until the valves are closed, compression has ALOT to do with your cam too.

Good point loweredd. Camshafts have alot to do with making power as well as compression.
