actually i had a similar post and im waiting for one of the pros to chime in but i believe the newer NV3500 5 speed found in the 4.3 S10\'s and maybe some other GM pickups will bolt right up. only difference that i have heard so far is the speedo connection is electric so it would probly require a speedo swap.
this is the setup i am going for although i havent aquired the tranny yet.

Just about anything can go in there. Depends on how much work you wanna do. KNanthrup is right, the new venture 3500 5 speed from a 4.3 truck will bolt up,with about no modifications. I beleive they are rated for over 300 lbs of TQ too. They came in some fullsizes, but are slightly different, and you have to change some stuff. They are easily identified from other s-series 5 speeds, cause they are all one peice. No separate bellhousing. It doesn\'t hang down any. My trucks slammed, and it was well up from under the framerail.
Like I said, just about any manual can be fitted in there. But,I would atleast stay away from using the T5\'s that were behind the 4 and 6 cylinder motors.(2.2, 2.5, 2.8 ) They require a good amount of work, and won\'t hold up very long.
All depends on the ammount of money, and time you wanna put in. Shit, Im bangin through 6 of them.

So, are you saying that if you already have a manual in the truck it should bolt right up to a 350?

hell no,lol. Only a manual tranny that was behind a 4.3 will bolt up. You can modify the 60 degree motor transmissions to work. But, you have to buy adaptors, do machine work, and your still left with a transmission that was only made to handle less than like 200 hp. Not worth it.

I\'ve got the 3500 in mine. The tranny doesnt hang down a bit. It lays on the frame when I air it out actually. The speedo connection is electric, but I dont have that figured out yet. -Dan
