I have an \'88 short bed with the origonal 2.5, 4 cyl. in it. This is my toy that I want to drive on a daily basis, but with more get up and go. My question is this... I\'m leaning towards a 350 TPI. from a Camaro or Firebird with all the electronics to be adapted to my s-10. Can anyone give me the pros and cons on this? I have a lot of experience with fabrication and machining, so if I have to make anything, that\'s fine.

Its according to which you could at a better deal. Is the cheaper one in better condition overall? Either way I would suggest getting a whole running donor car. You could tranfer all pieces from one to the other.(inculding all emision pieces and computer controls.) I think the tune port creats more HP. But, I\'m not 100% sure. tbi or tpi it should get decent gas mileage because its fue1 Inje.

The TPI would make more power right out of the box, and also would have more performance parts available to upgrade it. I would definetly get a complete donor car if you were to do that transplant. TBI\'s are nice, and I ran mine for a couple of years like that, but there is only so much power to be made there, and they are not multipoint injected like a TPI.

The early TPI had eight fuel injectors one in each intake runner but the were wtill batch fire not sequential. meaning that it fired fuel in one side of the engine then the next side and just went back forth. So if you find a donor car try to avoid the really early TPI i think after 88 or 89 would be fine. Also the early TPI intakes were desinged for the older style head were middle intake bolts were either striaght or angled I forget right now which way the older one were.

I\'m putting in 1995 LT1 from a Camaro with a 4L60E into a 1991 short bed, It\'s been more work than what I think a TBI would have been. Before you buy anything I would suggest you buy the \"S10 Conversion Manual\" from J.T.R. It\'s been like a bible for me. I read the LT1 is the most dificult to install but will be the most rewarding. Check out my web site and if you need more info feel free to email me.

Thanks for the suggestions. And the book is on my X-mas list.

The book is a must. It is geared to TPI/TBI currently with some LT1 info.
